Thanks for your previous reply. Still confused. The marker is placed at remaining stitches 56. Why is the cast on number of stitches, the same for the back and right front 192. As a machine knitter, I'll need to divide the back into 2 pieces as I will use the xxxl sizing. Thanks

Dear Mrs Bouwhuis, back piece is worked from the left side towards the right side (sideways); the marker before the last 56 sts seen from WS marks the armhole (the last 56 sts is the armhole part of the jacket), you will work the bottom of the jacket (from bottom edge towards the armhole) over the remaining 136 stitches with short rows as explained (with garter stitch and stocking stitch). Right front piece will be worked the same way. Hope it can help. Happy knitting!

This is going to be a crazy question...... I am a machine knitter. Due to arthritis, I am unable to keep the proper tension on my projects, so I won't be using a circular needle. I really want to make this sweater and am able to do short rows, increasing and decreasing stitches, and stocking stitch. The purl side is always facing me. I have read and re-read the instructions and realize i will have to do the back in two pieces. Is the stitching done in the round or vertical. Please help
18.09.2022 - 16:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sandra, this sweater is worked from side to side, not in the round nor vertically. You cast on all the stitches for the length of the back and then you work short rows to shape the piece. Happy knitting!

I do not understand how to knit the left front. Am I suppose to start with the extra stitches (in my case 200) And then decrease? I can’t get the short rows on the proper side either 😱
12.07.2020 - 17:15DROPS Design answered:
Dear Judy, you start on the side (towards mid front) as for the right front piece, and work the short rows on the bottom of piece, ie starting from WS instead of from RS on right front piece. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. When piece measures 40-44-48-54-58-66 cm / 15¾"-17¼"-19"-21¼"-22¾"-26" (the same no of ridges has been worked before and after bound off for neck - make sure to finish after one whole repetition + 2 ridges over all sts), insert a marker in piece when 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 sts remain on row (seen from RS). This marker shows where the sleeve is sewn in the garment. Bind off sts on next row. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Worked from side to side on circular needle to make room for all the sts. At the end of next row from RS, cast on 20-20-22-22-24-24 new sts for collar = 188-192-200-204-212-216 sts. Continue in garter st with short rows in stockinette st. Now dec for buttonholes as follows - from RS: Work 82-84-88-92-96-100 sts, K 2 tog, 1 YO, work 16 sts, K 2 tog, 1 YO. Work the rest of row. Continue to work in garter st for 3 cm / 1⅛" in total. Bind off. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Work as right front piece but reversed. Beg the short rows from WS. Do not dec for buttonholes. SLEEVE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 56-58-60-62-64-66 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 with beige. Work in GARTER ST for 4 cm / 1½" - see explanation above. Change to ocean view. Then work in stockinette st. Insert 1 marker at the beg of round. When piece measures 54-53-52-50-49-46 cm / 21¼"-21"-20½"-19¾"-19¼"-18" (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider shoulders), bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew side seams from the marker and down. Sew in sleeves. Sew the collar tog mid back and sew it to the neckline. Sew the buttons on to left front piece. CROCHET EDGE: Work an edge around the opening at the front on jacket, beg at the bottom of right front piece, work around the collar and down along left front piece. Work with beige on hook size 3 mm / C as follows: 1 sc, * ch 3, 1 dc in 1st ch, skip approx. 1 cm / ½", 1 sc *, repeat from *-*. Fasten off. |
