Hej!

If the entire mitten for the Candy Crush pattern is knit in the round using the double pointed needles (like the Polar Stripes pattern) rather than straight needles as this pattern calls for, will the number of cast on stitches be the same ? I made the Polar Stripes mittens and they came out terrific. I`d like to try using the Big Delight yarn combo now.
13.02.2021 - 12:46DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anne, Well the Polar Stripes mittens are worked with DROPS Lima, a yarn group B (= 20 sts = 10 cm) while these mittens are worked with DROPS Big Delight, a yarn group C (= 16 sts = 10 cm) - you cannot use the same pattern since tension is not the same - maybe Touch of Gold could then help you = worked in the round with a yarn group C (Alaska) you can replace with Big Delight. Hope this helps. Happy knititng!

Felted DROPS mittens in "Big Delight".
DROPS 151-23 |

INCREASE TIP: Inc 1 st by working 2 sts in the same st. ---------------------------------------------------------- MITTEN: Worked back and forth on needles size 5.5 mm / US 9 with Big Delight. Cast on 52-52-56 sts on needle size 5.5 mm / US 9. Work entire mitten in stockinette st. When piece measures 8 cm / 3", dec 8 sts evenly = 44-44-48 sts. When piece measures 15-16-17 cm / 6"-6¼"-6¾", insert 1 marker in the 22nd-22nd-24th st on row (= marks the thumb). Then inc 1 st on each side of st with marker, repeat on every other row 6-7-8 times in total - read Increase tip = 56-58-64 sts. After last inc, slip the inc sts + st with marker + 1 st in each side of these sts on a stitch holder for thumb = 15-17-19 thumb sts. Cast on 3 new sts behind the thumb sts = 44-44-48 sts. Piece measures approx. 21-23-25 cm / 8¼"-9"-9¾". Continue in stockinette st back and forth over these sts. When piece measures approx. 34-37-41 cm / 13½"-14½"-16", K 2 tog across = 22-22-24 sts. When piece measures approx. 36-39-43 cm / 14¼"-15¼"-17", K 2 tog across one more time = 11-11-12 sts remain on row. Pull yarn through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. THUMB: Slip the 15-17-19 thumb sts on to double pointed needles size 5.5 mm / US 9 and pick up 5 sts in the 3 inc sts from hand = 20-22-24 sts. Work in the round on double pointed needles in stockinette st. When thumb measures approx. 6-6-6.5 cm / 2½"-2½"-2¾" from thumb gusset, dec 4-4-6 sts evenly (dec by K 2 tog) = 16-18-18 sts. Work 2 rounds. On next round, dec 4 sts evenly = 12-14-14 sts. When piece measures approx. 8.5-8.5-9 cm / 3¼"-3¼"-3½", K 2 tog around = 6-7-7 sts. Thumb measures from thumb gusset: 9-9-9.5 cm / 3½"-3½"-3¾". Pull yarn through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. ASSEMBLY: Sew side seam on mitten in outer loops of edge sts to avoid a chunky seam. Knit another mitten the same way. FELTING: Place a plastic bag inside the thumb to avoid it felting together. Fasten this bag with a pin at the thumb gusset so it does not fall out during wash. Also place a plastic bag in the hand and fasten with a pin. Then place the mittens in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash warm at 40C/ 104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the mittens to the correct measurements while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash the mittens at regular wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
