Hello I like this pattern very much but would like to knit it with a v neck. Do you have suggestions as to how I could do this? I look forward to hearing from you Sandra
02.11.2022 - 09:19DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs May, we are unfortunately not able to adjust every pattern to every request, but you can take inspiration from our similar patterns for Vest - same kind of tension and V-neck. Happy knitting!

Knitted vest in 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk or 1 strand DROPS Wish. Piece is knitted with cables and rib. Size: S - XXXL
DROPS 228-37 |

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase/decrease evenly, use the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 82 stitches) and divide stitches by number of decreases to be done (e.g. 13) = 6,3. In this example work approx. every 5th and 6th stitch together. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. BIND-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight bind-off edge when binding off, you may use a larger needle. If this still is too tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while binding off (bind off yarn overs as stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Worked back and forth on circular needle in parts, and sewn together as explained in pattern. Then pick up a neck edge, and work edges around the armholes. BACK PIECE: Cast on 82-90-94-98-102-106 stitches on circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 with 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk or 1 strand DROPS Wish. Purl 1 row from wrong side, then work rib as follows from right side: 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above - * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until 4 stitches remain, knit 2 and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this for 10 cm = 4". Switch to circular needle size 8 MM = US 11, purl 1 row from wrong side while decreasing 13-17-17-17-17-17 stitches evenly - read DECREASE TIP = 69-73-77-81-85-89 stitches. Then work as follows from right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl 5-7-9-11-13-15, A.1 (= 15 stitches), purl 6, A.1, purl 6, A.1, purl 5-7-9-11-13-15, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this pattern upwards (the purl stitches from right side, are knitted on the wrong side). REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm = 13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼", bind off 2 stitches for armholes at beginning of the 2 next rows = 65-69-73-77-81-85 stitches. When piece measures 53-55-57-59-61-63 cm = 21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24"-24¾", decrease 5 stitches evenly over middle repetition of A.1, on next row bind off the middle 14-16-18-20-22-24 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. Then bind off 1 stitch on next row from neck = 22-23-24-25-26-27 stitches. Work the stitches in A.1 in stockinette stitch, decrease at the same time 5 stitches evenly over these stitches = 17-18-19-20-21-22 stitches. Bind off when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" (= 22-23-24-25-26-27 cm = 8¾"-9"-9½"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝" from where armholes were bind off). Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 82-90-94-98-102-106 stitches on circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 with 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk or 1 strand DROPS Wish. Purl 1 row from wrong side, then work rib as follows – from right side: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until 4 stitches remain, knit 2 and 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this for 10 cm = 4". Switch to circular needle size 8 MM = US 11, purl 1 row from wrong side while decreasing 13-17-17-17-17-17 stitches evenly = 69-73-77-81-85-89 stitches. Then work as follows from right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl 5-7-9-11-13-15, A.1, purl 6, A.1, purl 6, A.1, purl 5-7-9-11-13-15, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this. When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm = 13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼", bind off 2 stitches for armholes at beginning of the 2 next rows = 65-69-73-77-81-85 stitches. When piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝", decrease 5 stitches evenly over middle repetition of A.1, on next row slip the middle 8-10-12-14-16-18 stitches on a stitch holder for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. Continue to bind off stitches for neck on every row from neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 22-23-24-25-26-27 stitches. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew side seams edge to edge in outer loops of edge stitch to get a flat seam, stop when approx. 10 cm = 4" remain = vents. NECK EDGE: Begin from right side at one shoulder seam and pick up approx. 44-68 stitches around the neck, including stitches from stitch holder at the front (number of stitches should be divisible by 4) on a short circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 with 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk or 1 strand DROPS Wish. Work rib = knit 2/purl 2 for 12 cm = 4¾". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl - read BIND-OFF TIP. Fold rib at the top of neck down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. EDGE AROUND ARMHOLES: Pick up approx. 52 to 72 stitches (divisible by 4) around the armhole with 2 strands Brushed Alpaca Silk or 1 strand DROPS Wish on a short circular needle size 6 MM = US 10. Work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) for 4 cm = 1½". Then bind off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember BIND OFF TIP. Repeat around the other armhole. |
