Hello. I have a problem with a brand of wool. I have a pattern that requires making in Wendy Mode DK yarn. However, I believe that the yarn has been discontinued. I would appreciate it very much if you could recommend an alternative yarn that I may use. One that is in your range of yarns, please. Thank you. Richard.
19.03.2021 - 17:48DROPS Design answered:
Dear Richard, according to Ravelry, the yarn you mention is a 50% acrylic and 50 % merino, 142 m / 50 grams. In our collection there is no 50-50 blend, and we do not have one with the exact length/100 grams it has. Please feel free to check out all of our yarns HERE, to find the closest one. Happy Crafting!

Good morning. I think I am doing this simple piece, all wrong! After completing the 3cm rib in 'knit 2 - purl 2', I change to the 5.5mm circular needles. Then to follow 'A1' as the pattern shows. But where I am going wrong, is that I have continued doing this, following the 'knit 2 - purl 2'! I think the piece should be knitted in 'stocking stitch', from when I changed the needles to 5.5 mm & followed 'A1' of the pattern!
24.12.2020 - 10:25DROPS Design answered:
Hi Richard, after completing the 3cm rib, you should work stocking stitch and follow pattern A.1 (= 8 stitches) a total of 10 times on the round. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: Hat: See diagram A.1. Mittens: See diagram A.2. All stitches worked in stockinette stitch. DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the round (e.g. 84 stitches), and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g. 4) = 21. In this example, decrease by knitting together each 20th and 21st stitch. DECREASE TIP-2: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together. Repeat at all marker threads (= 8 stitches decreased on round). INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over; on the next round knit the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 84 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm = US 6 and black. Knit 1 round then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) in the round for 3 cm = 1⅛". Knit 1 round where you decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP-1 = 80 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9 and work pattern A.1 (= 8 stitches) a total of 10 times on the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the whole of A.1 has been completed in height continue with brown to finished length. When the piece measures 17 cm = 6¾" insert 8 marker threads in the piece with 10 stitches between each one. Now begin to decrease – read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 8 times = 16 stitches. Knit 2 and 2 stitches together = 8 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 25 cm = 9¾". POM POM: Make a large, loose pomp om of approx. 8 cm = 3⅛" with 1 strand of all colors. Trim it neatly and fasten to top of hat. ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 40 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm = US 4 and black. Knit 1 round then work rib (= knit 2, purl 2) for 5 cm = 2". Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm = US 6 and work stockinette stitch to finished length. Work A.2 over all stitches (= 5 repeats on the round). When A.2 has been worked 1 time in height continue with sea green. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 9 cm = 3½" increase 1 stitch, on each side of the first stitch on the round, for the thumb - read INCREASE TIP! Increase like this, on each side of the increased stitches, every 2nd round a total of 5 times = 50 stitches. Now place the 11 thumb-stitches on a thread. Work 1 round and cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb = 40 stitches. Insert 1 marker in each side (= 20 stitches between each marker). Continue in the round with sea green until the piece measures approx. 22 cm = 8¾" (you can try the mitten on; there is 4½ cm = 1¾" left to finished length). On the next round decrease on each side as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over; repeat the decrease every 2nd round 2 more times, then every round 5 times = 8 stitches. On the next round knit 2 and 2 stitches together. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. THUMB: Place the 11 thumb-stitches from the thread onto double pointed needles size 4 mm = US 6 and knit up 4 stitches behind the thumb-stitches with sea green = 15 stitches. Work stockinette stitch in the round until the thumb measures approx 5 cm = 2" (you can try the mitten on; there is ½ cm = ⅛" left to finished length). Knit 2 rounds AT THE SAME TIME as all stitches are knitted together 2 and 2 on both rounds. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. LEFT MITTEN: Work in the same way as the right mitten, but reversed; i.e. increase for the thumb on each side of the last stitch on the round (instead of on each side of the first stitch on the round). |
